EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts seems to be prepared for the worst of winter yet to come.
Stores like Rocky's Hardware in East Longmeadow have been doing a good business in what it took to cope with a couple of snowstorms in just one weeks time.
"It would definitely be rock salt and shovels people are coming in and buying them up quick," Assistant manager Carl Combs told 22News.
Because of the demand he's actually running a little low on rock salt but shipments he's expecting next week will take care of that.
Katie Tivnan shopped at Rocky's to buy a small shovel, not for her but for her 3 year old son.
"Well we're all set we're ready for it. I'm here just to pick up s little shovel for the little guy. So he can help his dad with the shoveling," Katie Tivnan said.
Most people 22News spoke with felt well prepared for this weekend's storm, and will be for the next whenever that happens.
"We have shovels we have rock salt for pets, Fresh gas for the snow blower. And I'd already changed the oil a few weeks ago," Bill Degiulo said.
And the people who manufacture the products that help us face winter with more certainty seem to have thought of everything from power shovels to hand warmers. But shovels and rock salt are still the staples that keep us one step ahead of the elements.
