SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A five mile road race and walk was held in honor of families who have lost children to SIDS.
The CDC says Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the leading cause of death among infants between a month and a year old.
More than 700 walkers and runners joined Congressman Richard Neal. The event started 23 years ago.
“Barry Mateyar who lost his son Barry Jr. to SIDS, a bunch of us got together and said we should do something. It's just a great committee, like Barry says every year, if we can save one life we can accomplish one goal,” said Brian Ahern of Springfield.
Organizers say the event has raised more than half a million dollars for SIDS research.
