SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Have you ever fallen victim to having your cell phone go missing? Or worse, having it stolen?
Smart phone thefts are on the rise throughout the U.S. Many call it apple-picking. A term derived from stealing Apple technology or iPhones. But now law enforcement officials and cell phone providers are looking for more ways to put an end to the thefts.
Right now there are third party apps available to track your phone, but they don't always work. One man 22News spoke with said he had his phone stolen and it proved to be quite inconvenient.
"I was smart enough to have it synced," said Brian Sabo of Belchertown. "I had it synced backed up so I was able to get my phone information, but I was without my phone for 3 or 4 days and people were trying to get a hold of me; like ‘Brian why's your phone off?' Because it got stolen."
22News spoke with a few police departments tonight that said they do happen to find stolen phones during arrests. And the best thing you can always do is fill out a report so they know it is missing.
