WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The boil water order in Westfield was lifted just in time for the city's fireworks celebration at Stanley Park.
It's estimated that more than 20,000 people gathered in Stanley Park for a belated Happy Birthday America celebration.
The fireworks dazzled the crowds.
It was a fun, family friendly event that most people have been coming to for years.
People who went to see the fireworks told 22News they enjoyed waiting until after the 4th to celebrate, because it seems to make the holiday last a little longer.
And Westfield wasn't the only western Massachusetts community to celebrate the 4th of July a little late.
Greenfield's Independence Day celebration lit up the night sky.
Families flocked to Beacon Field to celebrate the red, white & blue.
Ted Wilcox of Turners Falls told 22News, "I like having it on the weekend. Like you said it does extend the holidays, but you can see all the people here... you get to see people you havent seen for years. You can run into old friends."
The celebrating started early in the day with music, zumba and the Greenfield Military Band all leading up to the moment when they set off the first firework.
