SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Civilian Review Board has been conducting an investigation this week into four Springfield Police Officers involved in the arrest and beating of a black suspect last November.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney has confirmed for 22News that The Springfield Civilian Review Board heard witness testimony two nights this week, investigating the arrest in which Officer Jeffrey Asher was videotaped striking a suspect with a metal flashlight.
Asher and three other Officers, as well as the man they arrested, Melvin Jones III, are all testifying before the board.
Others are being questioned as well.
Sgt. Delaney told 22News the hearing is closed to the media, and it could stretch into next week.
No word on when a disposition or recommendations might be made.
