SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield rolled out the red carpet Sunday for basketball hall of fame's past and present.
Fans crowded around the red carpet from the Springfield Symphony Hall. They came for a glimpse of those who were about to be enshrined in the basketball hall of fame. The new inductees were accompanied by stars of the game that had already experienced this special day in their lives.
The day was so special for basketball fans that Margaret Hyde-Smith told 22News she traveled hundreds of miles to see the class of 2013, along with their hall of fame predecessors.
“I live in North Carolina and I came up here to see the basketball stars. I am so excited, I mean I've never gotten this close to a star before, so it is wonderful,” said Hyde-Smith.
It's like this every year during early September, when the basketball world focuses on Springfield. The city was where the game was invented and first played.
