SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A National Labor Relations Board Administrative Judge ruled that Springfield area pre-school and childcare provider Square One engaged in multiple unfair labor practices.
The NLRB told 22News in a news release that following a ten day hearing, Judge Michael Rosas found that Square One unlawfully implemented video surveillance and other policies without notifying or bargaining with the Union.
They said that they "unlawfully fired employee Dorothy Wilson for signing a union card," and that "they interrogated employees about their communications with their union representatives."
The judge also found that Square One has for years systematically "schemed" to avoid paying employees contractually required pay and benefits by misclassified them as "substitutes" not covered by the union's contract.
Square One has been ordered to reinstate Wilson and make her whole for lost pay and benefits.
Square One must also provide back pay to all employees who were illegally excluded from coverage.
