WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Westfield Police are searching for who they believe is a serial pharmacy robber.
At around 10:30 Friday morning, the Rite Aid Pharmacy on East Silver Street was swarming with police after it was robbed by a man who they believe has done this before.
In the video above, you can see a surveillance picture of the man police say robbed the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Westfield.
"You have to be in a pretty bad place if you try to rob a drugstore for prescription drugs," said Laurie Jasmin of Huntington.
They say he's done it before at Rite Aid stores in Hampden County and Northern Connecticut.
According to Robert Eak, a Southwick Police Dispatcher, "You never know where it's going to happen, and sadly it's a sign of the times that people have to do that."
Since the year began, there have been at least six pharmacy robberies. In most of them prescription pills were stolen.
Pauline Taft of Westfield said, "I think there should be more security. I think things should be locked up tighter. In today's world, there are a lot of people on prescription drugs and they go for a lot of money on the street."
Westfield Police told 22News that they're reviewing the surveillance video from inside the pharmacy to see if they can get a better description of the suspect, or identify him.
Westfield Police describe him as a dark skinned man between 5-foot10 and 6-feet tall, and between 20 and 30 years old.
He was last seen wearing red gym shorts, a white striped shirt, and a baseball cap.
Police say he had a gun, threatened the pharmacist, and jumped over the counter before stealing the pills.
Other towns where Rite Aid Pharmacies were recently robbed include Chicopee, Holyoke and Enfield, Connecticut.
The following locations have been robbed in the month of July:
- The Northampton Street Rite Aid in Holyoke on July 22nd
- The Longmeadow Street CVS in Longmeadow on July 13th
- The Walgreens on Northampton Street in Holyoke on July 9th
- A Rite Aid in Enfield, Connecticut on July 6th
