22News saw several neighbors on Harvey Johnson Drive helping each other out to clean the large trees and limbs that fell on their properties.
Dan Watson said his neighbor was there right away to help clean his property that had several limbs and branches down.
Watson said the damage was scary at first. "We came home to a really big mess as you can see here, with the tree down. It was concerning, it looked worse then it was, the house didn't get any damage so we were fortunate in that regard."
With heavy rains, like what came from Monday's storm, often comes basement flooding. Rocky's Hardware told 22news it is best to clean gutters often to be ready for storms like this. They also recommend getting an extension for your gutter, in order to keep rain away from your house and out of your basement.
If you do get basement flooding, they suggest using a sub-pump to remove the water, but its important to watch the pump closely while you use it.
According to Jay Young, Assistant Manager of the Rockys Hardware in Agawam, "Biggest thing with submersible pumps, you want to make sure you keep an eye on them because if they run dry without any water around them, you'll burn the pump out and that will destroy them."
Rocky's Hardware also told 22News that if you need to use a ladder for the clean up, be sure you are on steady ground and there is always someone holding it at the base.
Also, be sure to check for any power lines that may be down, tangled in the tree, before you begin clearing away the trees.
