SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - More families are choosing the comfort of eating at home, rather than dining out.
A new study says on average each family makes 900 meals a year at home, while relying on restaurants for only 200 meals.
Many people told 22News dining in has its own perks like being able to eat healthy and saving money.
"I save maybe about $50 from eating at home," said Will Anderson of Springfield. "I prepare the food at home myself. I eat healthy. I eat lot of vegetables, protein, fruits."
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , people spend about 9.4 percent of their disposable income on food.
And often to save money, they say people stick with basic entrees like chicken, rice and pasta.
