HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke Fire officials now believe that two of the brush fires that burned for hours Tuesday were intentionally set.
Holyoke Fire Lt. Tom Paquin told 22News firefighters put out a total of nine brush fires.
Seven of those were accidently started by what is believed to be a passing train. Paquin says the two others were intentionally set in a wooded area near Beaudoin Village.
Lt. Paquin says the recent dry weather has contributed to the increased fire dange r. "The last couple of years of storm debris, a lot of down trees and brush and what it's doing now is it's dry."
Tuesday's series of brush fires came just two days after a larger brush fire burned for hours in a section of Mount Tom near the Holyoke/Easthampton line.
