AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Woodshop used to be a common class at most public high schools, but it's being phased out of a lot of schools due to tight budgets.
Academics have been pushed to the forefront and technology has forced schools to spend more money on computers.
Some educators say we are raising a generation that may not know how to use their hands.
22News asked local residents if they think schools should bring back woodshop.
"Any classes beyond English and Math classes are very important for students to build a knowledge base so they have something to write about. So they have something to apply their math skills to." said one local resident.
Some experts also say by reducing electives, you're limiting students whose intelligence and gifts may not lie in traditional classroom learning.
