HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - An accident involving a box truck that ran into an underpass in Holyoke and then flipped over, leaking fuel onto the road, has been cleared.
At around 6:00 Wednesday morning, the truck crashed into the underpass at Lyman and Canal Streets
The truck flipped onto its side, with some of its fuel leaking into the nearby storm drains. Hazardous material crews were called in to deal with the fuel spill.
Insulation from the truck and some of its cargo has also spilled onto the roadway.
The area near the railroad underpass has been the scene of many truck accidents, due to the low clearance on the bridge. Fire Dept. Lieutenant Tom Paquin told 22News that the clearance is clearly marked, but the truck was too tall for the allotted height.
