WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Much like Springfield's tornado shelter at the MassMutual Center, West Springfield's temporary shelter for tornado victims is closing. The shelter, located at the Moses Building at the Eastern States Exposition, is expected to shut down by the end of the week.
56 people are currently living there, and while most of them will be placed in new apartments by July 1, about 8 to 10 of them still have no place to live.
Two of those who are still looking for a solution are Christopher Davis and his son John. Both have been at the shelter for the last three weeks. Christopher is disabled and uses a wheelchair to get around, and the Davis family says that they have so far been unable to find a handicapped-accessible apartment.
If you are able to help the Davis family, or the other West Springfield families that are still looking for a place to live, you are asked to call the Medical Reserve Corps at (413) 531-7376.
