WARREN, Mass. (WWLP) - After all that rain, the James Nothe family of West Warren near the town of Palmer have their work cut out for them during the rest of this Memorial Day weekend.
The family is digging out from under the mud and debris from a flash flood this weekend.
Nothe and his wife returned from Maine to find the basement of their Spring Street home off of Route 67 covered with mud from several feet of water.
According to Warren Police Sgt. Joseph La Flower, the flooding was was traced to a beaver dam that broke on Saturday.
Nothe told 22News, this could have been a lot worse "We're lucky nobody got hurt. Because flooding like this, they could have drowned" he went on to say "We have tenants here and I think their cars are probably totaled . We have about 3 feet of water here."
At one point during the height of the flooding, Sgt. La Flower said some people in the neighborhood were trapped in their homes.
The road is open again but the tell tale signs of the weekend flooding are still visible.
