WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - At 5:30PM, West Springfield's Mayor announce the town's host community agreement with Hard Rock New England has been signed.
Mayor Neffinger says agreement includes $41 million in upfront investments, including upgrades to public safety, and community enhancements.
In order for West Springfield to hold a casino referendum before the "Big E" this agreement needed to be completed by 6:00PM.
Now that the agrement is signed, the Town Council must vote to go ahead with a referendum before the Massachusetts Gaming Commission completes their background checks on Hard Rock and their investors.
If that vote passes, Hard Rock is expected to ask for a September 10th or 11th referendum. The Town Council would then review the host agreement and at some point hold another vote to approve the referendum.
