WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield Police arrested an 18-year-old city man and charged him with attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon after a stabbing incident in downtown Westfield Monday night.
Westfield Police Captain Michael McCabe told 22News that, "Some people flagged down officers on patrol on Elm Street, and led them to a victim, who was lying down on the street and bleeding. Officers saw someone running away and they chased him three or four blocks and caught him and recovered the weapon."
Police arrested 18-year-old Angel Ortiz of Westfield and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife, attempted murder, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Captain McCabe would only identify the victim as a Westfield man in his 30's. "He suffered a substantial laceration to his shoulder, and maybe his abdomen... He lost a lot of blood," said McHabe.
The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center where is condition is described as "stable."
Angel Ortiz will be held for arraignment Tuesday in Westfield District Court.
