WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - As talks about gun control begin in Washington, gun sales continue to soar. Firearms orders are spiking across the country, including right here in western Massachusetts.
Gun shop owners say that they hope any new gun laws protect those people who obtain guns legally.
West Springfield's Guns Inc. General Manager, Philip Marcil told 22News that he thinks the people who carry out mass shootings often steal the guns they use. He says his customers go through a lengthy process to ensure safety.
According to Marcil, before anyone leaves his shop with a firearm, they go though a gun safety course and licensing process.
"Once he completes all that, then he comes in, selects his gun, fills out all the federal and state paperwork, we call the FBI we do the national Brady background check on him," Marcil said.
President Obama said that he has ordered Vice President Joe Biden to head up a task force that is to come up with gun control recommendations by next month.
