SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) - Though the economy may be looking a bit brighter, many here in Western Massachusetts still struggle even to just put food on the table. And the food pantries are struggling to feed them.
The community food pantry that serves Southwick, Granville and Tolland held a wine tasting fundraiser Sunday night at Nora's in Southwick. Their food and money donations are down by about 25 percent this year. Proceeds from Sunday's event will go toward keeping food on their shelves.
Marita Niquette told 22News, "I think people don't really have a lot of money to donate to causes these days because of the economy."
But Joseph Young said, "I feel that we need to do that. I've been lucky and try to help out those who aren't as fortunate."
Organizers said they hope this fundraiser turns into a tradition in Southwick.
