SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The National Rifle Association thinks armed police officers should protect our schools.
Many here in Western Massachusetts endorse that idea.
When the 22News interactive Internet question asked, if armed police officers should be posted at all United States schools, 60 percent of you agreed that's a good idea. 22News asked people living in Western Massachusetts why they think the NRA proposal has won such strong support.
"I think if someone were to do something like they did down in Connecticut, The armed guard would be the first target," Philip Moraitis said.
"I think having a guard and the police at all the schools they protect but you have a gun and weapon, you have that insecurity and you're excited for the kids, the kids should be able to go to school and feel safe automatically."
Teachers in a remote Texas town have been given permission to come to school armed with concealed weapons. The reason given, the Sheriff's office is at least a half hour away.
