(WWLP) - This February blizzard forced several events to be postponed or canceled.
For the first time ever, western Massachusetts swimming sectionals were canceled.
On Thursday, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association canceled the meet without postponing or rescheduling it. This left hundreds of swimmers, coaches, and parents across the area, devastated.
"I didn't miss a single practice, everyday, 2-3 hours per day," said Patrick Byrnes, a Chicopee Comp sophomore. "I was in the pool working with my coaches and my teammates and I was just devastated when I found out it was cancelled. I'm not entirely satisfied with the solution that came out, but I'm happy the seniors will have one more chance to swim."
The coaches have come up with a solution. The girls meet will be held on Monday at Westfield High School and the boys will meet Tuesday at Chicopee High School.
However, this swim meet will NOT be recognized by the MIAA.
