SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - For just a moment, what happened in downtown Springfield Saturday afternoon, resembled a scene out of the horror classic, "Night of the Living Dead."
But this was Zombiefest, and zombies have come a long way since they were frightening creatures. Instead of what they've become are cultural Icons reminding us that Halloween will soon be here.
Downtown improvement groups decided to liven up the area Saturday. They sponsored the Zombie Walk from Stearns Square to Court Square. If James Arabarz looked almost too much like a Zombie, that's what he does at Six Flags.
“There's a lot of make up anywhere from 10-20 minutes and we go it we have a lot of costumes and pick out a costume,” said Arabarz.
It was easy to take part in the Zombie Walk and the festivities that followed at Court Square. Just dress up like a zombie and act the part. Hundreds attended the event that was designed to liven up the downtown area.
