NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - There was excitement in Northampton Thursday morning, as an NBC network crew came to the Woodstar Cafe to film a segment for the popular show " The Voice."
A crowd of dozens of fans and well-wishers gathered outside the Masonic Street coffee shop, where Top 5 Contestant Michelle Chamuel of Amherst worked for more than six months.
Since the beginning of the season, the singer, pianist, and guitarist has proven herself to be a fan favorite, and Thursday's shoot was a sort of homecoming for her.
"This is awesome, I feel like I'm in the middle of a very large family that hasn't seen me in a while, and has forgotten what I look like, and therefore, has taken photos," Chamuel joked.
Chamuel's former boss at the cafe told 22News that she had originally been going back and forth between work and auditions for the show, but once she advanced farther along in the competition, she couldn't keep coming back to western Mass to work.
Chamuel told 22News that she actually had the flu the first time that she auditioned for the program, and did not make it. She says that her success this season just goes to show that you cannot give up.
"Just because someone says ‘no' doesn't mean you have to stop trying, because you never know why it happens. Things happen for a reason, it was meant to be this time," she said. "Who knows? You just never know."
