HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - The body of a man who apparently fell off a dock at a Hadley marina was found by divers during the late night hours, more than an hour after he was last seen alive.
Mary Carey from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office notified 22News that the body of Chrisopher A. Patterson, 54, of the Auburndale section of Newton, was pulled from the river early Tuesday morning.
Around 11PM, 22News received reports that a man had fallen into the river at the Sportsman's Marina in Hadley, and that a search was underway. 90 minutes later, Hadley Deputy Fire Chief George Moriarty confirmed with 22News that they had found the body.
Search teams from South Hadley and the Massachusetts State Police helped the Hadley Police and Fire Departments look for Patterson. Our 22News cameras captured search boats and a dive team continue their efforts for over an hour.
Carey said that a diver from the South Hadley Fire Department found Patterson's body about 13 feet below the surface. The area that his body was found was just 25 feet away from where he had been seen falling off a dock, she said.
According to Carey, Patterson was reported missing by a friend who was picnicking on a pontoon boat with him.
She told 22News that his death appears to have been an accident, though they are continuing their investigation.
