NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - An 18 year-old bicyclist that was badly hurt in a crash in downtown Northampton Saturday evening has died.
According to a news release sent to 22News by the Office of the Northwestern District Attorney , Harry Delmolino, 18, of Hadley, died at Baystate Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.
Delmolino was thrown from his bicycle onto the pavement after colliding with a car at Pleasant and Main Streets around 7:45 Saturday night. The car's driver, 43 year-old Celso Avelar, was turning left from Pleasant Street onto Main Street at the time of the crash, according to the DA's office.
Northampton Police, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section continue to look into the cause of the crash. Several witnesses to the accident have made statements to the police. No cause has yet been released, and District Attorney David Sullivan says that they are waiting before they make any sort of official determination.
"We will wait for all relevant information to be gathered and evaluated before drawing any conclusion about the nature and cause of the collision," Sullivan said.
Delmolino's family had been at his side throughout his hospitalization.
"We send our deepest condolences to the Delmolino family as they grieve the tragic loss of their loved one," Sullivan said.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Kostanski Funeral Home in Greenfield.
