NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Standing on the shore of the Oxbow in Northampton, it looked like the unofficial start of summer on Monday.
Sean McClure of South Hadley said, "We're having a great time, thankfully we got one good day of weather out of this weekend. "
The marina was filled with boaters, but most never left the docks.
Jeff Root of Agawam explained, "I don't think we could even get out from under the bridge ,the water is probably 15 to 20 ft higher than it usually is so we're going to take it easy here and play some horse shoes here."
At Brunelle's Marina in South Hadley, even the docks were underwater.
The rain also left behind another hazard. Root pointed out, "Too many logs, too much debris."
However, there are less obvious dangers too. The first warm days of spring can easily mask water temperatures that are still dangerously cold.
Out on the river, the water's not just high it's also fast.
While some of the fun will have to wait, there's was still plenty to unofficially start the season.
The Oxbow Marina Grounds Manager, Chet Maslowski, told 22News, "They're not really going out on the river they're going out on the Oxbow and putting around and enjoying the day; going out and going back in, they're being pretty safe."
