NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - High wind gusts across western Massachusetts have caused scattered power outages throughout the area.
The outages were perhaps most noticeable in downtown Northampton early Tuesday evening, where dozens of retail stores and apartment homes lost power. Northampton Police had to directing traffic on Main Street from State Street to Elm Street, due to the traffic lights being out. Power was restored there before 7:00 P.M.
A reported transformer problem in Florence may be to blame for that outage, however downed trees and power lines had been reported around the area., causing thousands of outages.
By Wednesday morning, power had been restored to all but a few hundred customers, scattered all across western Massachusetts.
Downed trees became an issue in several communities, including in Leverett, Easthampton, Springfield, Agawam, Hadley, and Hatfield.
