GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) - Sgt. Joshua Bouchard was seriously wounded land lost one of his legs in combat in Afghanistan in 2009.
Hundreds of volunteers from the ‘Homes for Our Troops' build brigade started building his handicapped accessible home in late April.
Landscaping was their emphasis during this weekend's work.
Sgt. Bouchard expects to move in by the end of next month. He told 22News, these volunteers have made him very happy.
"It's quite an honor to see so many people show up for myself, all start troops and other Vietnam organizations, it's definitely an honor," said Sgt. Joshua Bouchard, U.S. Marine Corps.
Many of the volunteers worked on the Bouchard home this weekend as part of their companies commitment to war veterans. Bill Rodgers is one such volunteer.
"We are honored and privileged to be out here today to put this together. It's the least we can do for the folks who served our country," said volunteer Bill Rodgers.
As Sgt. Bouchard prepares to move into his new home in the not too distant future, he's pleased that the homes for our troops project has gotten so much attention here in Western Massachusetts.
