HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Some 250 Western Massachusetts bicycle riders spent their day helping put food on the table for needy families.
Sunday was the third annual "Bike for Food" fundraiser at the Western Massachusetts Food Bank in Hatfield. Each rider covered a twenty five mile area encouraging donations along their route.
Carol Demetri of Bechertown told 22News it made her feel good inside.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to come out and raise money for people who in many cases don't have food to put on their tables,” said Demetri. “It's something that we all probably take for granted on a daily basis. They're struggling. It's been good to be out here today.”
Some three hundred Western Massachusetts agencies, such as Springfield's Emergency Open Pantry receive a portion of the groceries that they distribute to the poor from the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
