EASTHAMPTON, Mass. - You now have more chances to win big with a new game launched by the state lottery.
It's called Jackpot Poker and it's similar to Keno because it's all about getting that lucky combination of numbers; that are drawn every four minutes, but the odds of winning seem to be better.
All you need is the jackpot hand of five lucky numbers.
"In gambling, you know you only go in with so much. Hopefully you get the right combination," said Rich Burris of Florence.
The state lottery launched a poker-themed, Keno-style game Monday, at more than 1,200 lottery retailers across the state. Easthampton's College Variety was one of them. Some players thought it was too confusing.
"I just saw it I think it's too expensive. You only got five people on a hit, it's not very good, I don't think it's very good," said John Poulin of Easthampton.
So, here's how the game plays out. The odds of winning it big in Keno are 1 in 15. The overall odds of winning in Jackpot Poker are 1 in 5. In Keno, players pick 1 to 12 numbers between 1 and 80. In Jackpot Poker, players have to pick five numbers between 1 and 52. The amount they want to bet and the number of draws they want to play. The computer randomly selects the order of 52 virtual cards and picks 5. The prize goes to the best poker hand. Some say the game could attract casino goers.
"I think you got your loyal clientele to the Keno games and the scratch tickets and the lottery. I don't think it's going to take away too much," said Sara Haas of Easthampton.
Jackpot Poker offers nine ways to win prizes of up to $25,000.
