NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - If you are a larger woman who's had difficulty finding the right size of clothes, there's a reason.
A new report says less than 10% of the clothing retail market is made up of garments sized 14 and up.
Retail analysts say manufacturers shy away from making plus-sized clothing because of a stereotype that larger women don't want to dress fashionably.
Ci Ci Boutique owner Cindy Hackworth carries sizes 14-26 in her Northampton store.
She told 22News she has a lot of enthusiastic and well-dressed plus-sized customers.
"A lot of plus sized women want to look fabulous. They want what's trendy, they want what's classic. And they want things that are not going to make them look frumpy. Everybody got's something that they love about their figure and something they don't. It doesn't make any difference what size you are."
Research firm NPD Group found that sales in the plus-sized industry have only increased 1% in the last two years.
