AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close sections of the Norwottuck Rail Trail in Amherst and Hadley for an anticipated three-week period beginning Monday, April 8, at 7:00AM, for purposes of storm water drainage maintenance.
The work on drainage ditch-cleaning will commence at the South Maple Street crossing in Hadley. DCR will close sections of the trail from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, each day in the following order, until the work is complete:
1.) South Maple Street to Hazel Street in Amherst and Hadley - week of April 8
2.) Spruce Hill Road to South Maple Street in Hadley - weeks of April 8 and April 15
3.) South Maple Street to Hazel Street in Amherst and Hadley - weeks of April 15 and April 22
4.) Hazel Street to Rte 9 in Amherst - weeks of April 15 and April 22
5.) Rte 9 to Southeast Street in Amherst - week of April 22.
Adjustments will be made to the schedule as the project proceeds. The sections will be closed to all trail users when the work is underway within them. Dump trucks and excavators will be working on the trail.
The Rte 9 tunnel section will require an entry point off Rte 9 over the guardrail by the tunnel to bring in equipment. A State Police road detail will monitor the entry point during the work on this section.
