NORTHAMPTON, Mass (WWLP) - A survey from Aetna says one out of three Americans surf the web to relax and de- stress.
Charlie Ryan, from Northampton says he does exactly that when he logs on to the web, "I go on Youtube… I look up random things that are really funny. I like comedy!"
The survey revealed that mothers turn to the internet specifically in hopes of relieving stress.
Kristie Levrault, from South Hadley, has three kids and says she said when she isn't using web applications to organize their busy schedules, she values her time on the internet after the kids are in bed or before they wake up.
"I do a lot of shopping online, or Facebook and email," she explained.
Thirty-four percent of people in the survey said they believe connecting to friends through social media is a good thing for their health and wellness
The survey also found people would rather connect to friends over social media than spend time with them in person, but people in Northampton told 22News they would just rather use social media as an easy way to get groups of friends together.
"I would definitely rather spend time with them but the internet obviously makes is easier to arrange spending time together," Christian Sykes, from Chicopee, said.
