FLORENCE, Mass. (WWLP) - Members of the State Police Bomb Squad discovered that a bag reported as a suspicious package Monday morning, turned out to be filled with corduroy pants.
Around 9:00 A.M., police conducted their investigation around a fire escape behind a green, multi-story building at Main and North Maple Streets.
Northampton Deputy Fire Chief John Davine told 22News that police and firefighters were called-in after receiving a call from a nearby business.
"We couldn't identify an owner of the package, so as in our protocols, we called the State Police Bomb Squad, and had them come in and X-ray it for us. Found out it was just a bag of clothes," Davine said.
Police shut down a short stretch of North Maple Street between Depot Avenue and Main Street as the investigation was underway, but the bomb squad left after discovering that the bag contained only pants.
