NORTHAMPTON, Mass, (WWLP) - While some people passed on the usual family BBQ on July 4th, others spent the day shopping.
When you think of 4th of July you don't often think shopping.
But retailers offer bargains and for some people in Northampton, the bargains worked.
The streets of Northampton were quieter than usual on this Independence Day.
Many major superstores outside the town offer super sales, and big discounts to get people through the door.
The few stores that were opened did the same.
22news talked to one bargain hunter who said she liked getting in some shopping at a discounted cost.
Regina Zebrowski of Ludlow told 22News, "We figured it was a good time to come out and take advantage of the sales, it's a beautiful day, and then we'll just hit the beach on the weekend."
Some people told 22news they agreed that it was a good chance to get a deal. Others said they just liked having the day off and were happy to avoid the crowd.
