GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) - Granby Firefighters had to wait for utility workers to shut off power to some downed lines, before they could start pouring water on a raging house fire on Chicopee Street.
22News videographer Thomas Maroney said he saw live wires down in front of the burning house at 92 Chicopee Street Tuesday night, and that ranking fire fighters kept their men away until a crew from National Grid cut power.
Granby Police closed a section of Chicopee Street and were turning traffic around in the vicinity of School Street.
South Hadley, Ludlow, Westover Air Reserve Base and Palmer fire departments, as well as several others, were called in to help Granby put out the fire.
A Granby Police dispatcher told 22News they received the report of a fire in a vacant house at 92 Chicopee Street at 9:14 Tuesday night. 45 minutes later, the dispatcher said they were still calling in help to fight the fire.
