SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - More than 80 small business owners were at a networking conference at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley Wednesday morning; but what was special about this conference is that all of the business owners were women.
The Massachusetts Small Business Development Center has been hosting these meetings of the minds annually, and this was the 20th anniversary.
One of their earlier networking sessions years ago was about getting started online and website development. Obviously, technology and small business has come a long way since then; today's focus was business in the palm of your hand: how to utilize your devices like smartphones and tablets, to help your business succeed.
Senior Business analyst Lyne Kendall told 22News that women who own their own businesses have an advantage in the workplace, and for many of them, it comes from what they do at home.
“I come from large families, so all the women in the household are on their phones, on their computers, still answering phones, dealing with the children. They're great multi-taskers and this helps them tremendously in their business,” Kendall said.
Speakers at the event included an author, project managers, creative directors and professionals from Peoples United Bank, which sponsored the event.
