BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) - Belchertown honored its war dead Monday morning with a parade from Town Hall to the Belchertown Common.
Prior to the parade, a veterans' honor guard visited the town's South Cemetery, where World War II veterans from Belchertown are buried.

Don Slessler, who also served in the Second World War, told 22News that today's young people must keep the traditions of Memorial Day alive.
"This is important for the children. I have 12 great grand children, and I teach them about it," Slessler said.
Loved ones of the soldiers buried here in Belchertown attended the solemn service. The honor guard visits South Cemetery each Memorial Day.
