CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) - Many people who find themselves homeless are also in serious financial crisis. Some have lost jobs or have low paying jobs that don't cover basic living expenses.
According to a new Associated Press poll (http://bigstory.ap.org/article/exclusive-4-5-us-face-near-poverty-no-work-0) the demographic is now changing with more single, white mothers with children living in poverty than ever before and that 80% of American adults will face poverty at some point in their life.
Locally, nearly thirty-percent of homeless are under age 30. Another group that has seen it's share of homeless are veterans.
This week on 22News In Focus we'll look at the state of homelessness in our region and what people can do to keep in good financial standing. We will be talking with local organizations that are working to keep people in their homes as well as placing the homeless in safe, affordable housing.
