CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Thousands of students in Massachusetts will soon have a longer school day.
The state announced this week it would be entering into a pilot program that extends the school year by 300 hours for students in two Massachusetts communities, Fall River and Lawrence.
If the program proves successful in closing achievement gaps, it's something all students in Massachusetts could soon have to adjust to.
This week on 22News inFocus we'll talk to a lawmaker about how this came about and how likely it is to go state-wide.
We'll talk to some local school representatives about their experiences with extended school days.
You'll also hear from a retired teacher about why she thinks it's a bad idea.
