SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - For at least one Springfield woman, 82 is the new 22. Luora Webbbecame the oldest African-American to graduate from Mt. HolyokeCollege in South Hadley on Sunday.
In 1944, this history making lady became the Springfield schooldepartment's first African-American clerical worker, retiring as anaccountant in 1986. Her road to Mount Holyoke College followed herreceiving an associate degree in English two years ago fromSpringfield Technical Community College. "I hope to become aspokesman, spokesperson, excuse me for education. I want toencourage people to stop procrastinating and get out and dosomething with their lives," explained Webb.
Luora Webb shared today's graduation with her family on hand.She has three children, three grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Luora told 22News, She began this late in life journeythrough higher learning when she decided to take a few coursespreparing her to write a book. Luora said she wants to prove thatyou're never too old to learn new things and achieve you'redreams.
