CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The more than 800,000 furloughed federal employees hope to receive the lost pay once the Congress resolves the government shutdown crisis.
At the moment, there are different rules for salaried and hourly workers receiving back pay. 22News spoke with people on Friday who claim the rules covering each of those federal employee groups are unfair.
“My understanding is if you're on salary you will get paid, however If you're hourly, how can you make up the time, you can't do it I think in order to make it fair they should all get paid,” said David Smith of Monson.
In the 1995-96 government shutdowns, furloughed workers were retroactively given full pay.
