BOSTON (WWLP) - Governor Deval Patrick fulfilled a friendly Stanley Cup wager in Chicago, Illinois Tuesday.
Governor Patrick joined Illinois Governor Pat Quinn in volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
It goes back to a bet they made before the start of the Stanley Cup series between the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks. The governor of the losing team's state would volunteer at the food bank of the winner's choice.
Both Governors say it's about so much more than a hockey game.
"I can't think of a better way to honor the spirit of these two teams and the spirit of the game than to volunteer. The Bruins are a very, very important part of the civic community at home and I know that's true of the Blackhawks here," said Gov. Patrick.
He plans to return early Wednesday when the House and Senate have planned votes to override his veto of a 500-million dollar tax bill to finance transportation improvements.
