BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Days ago, Boston Mayor Tom Menino shocked the city when he announced he would not run for a sixth term.
Now, he's talking about how he came to that difficult decision.
Menino says he made the decision two weeks ago, while sitting alone at night at the kitchen table in the mayor's mansion.
He spent three months there recuperating form a series of ailments that kept him in hospital for nearly six weeks last year.
Menino kept his decision to himself for a couple of days, then began breaking the news to friends last Tuesday, a day before it was announced to the public.
Menino retires after 20 years in office and is the longest serving mayor of Boston.
