BOSTON (WWLP) - In case you didn't realize it Monday is a holiday. Massachusetts and Maine are the only two states that observe Patriots' Day.
Patriots' Day commemorates the first battles of the Revolutionary War fought in Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.
Due to the holiday, state, county and municipal offices are closed.
And because of the observance of Patriots' Day, state tax returns here in Massachusetts aren't due until Tuesday, April 19; however your federal tax return is still due on Monday, April 18.
Patriots' Day is not a federal holiday, so federal offices will be open and the mail will be delivered.
Most schoolchildren have this week off for spring vacation.
Patriot's Day is also well known as being the day the Boston Marathon takes place and 22News will have team coverage of "Marathon Monday".
Ryan Walsh will cover the start in Hopkinton while Christine Lee will cover the finish line in Boston.
Ryan will focus on Western Massachusetts runners making the trek to Boston for this prestigious and historic race.
