CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Thursday, is National HIV Testing Day, an annual effort to encourage screening for the virus that causes AIDS.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates more than a million people are living with HIV, and one in five don't know they're infected.
They say testing is important because early diagnosis and treatment can prolong life and help prevent transmitting the virus to others.
Health organizations are offering free screenings all over the country.
