CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Massachusetts shoppers are one step away from enjoying the benefits of the tax-free weekend.
Both House and Senate lawmakers approved the legislation Wednesday.
All it needs now is Governor Patrick's signature.
Once signed, the 6.25% sales tax will be suspended the weekend of August 10th and 11th.
Many people told 22News that's perfect timing for back-to-school shopping.
"Kids need sneakers every year. I mean, they grow so fast that you're going to have to get sneakers constantly. Socks, sneakers things like that kids go through so fast especially if they play sports," said Alexis Parent of South Hadley
The state may lose about $20 million in tax revenue, but lawmakers hope the tax-free weekend will give business owners a boost on otherwise slow shopping season.
