CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Twitter wants to be the new go-to source during emergencies and crises.
Twitter introduced a new notifications feature called Twitter Alerts.
It's designed to let credible organizations enhance the visibility of tweets that contain warnings, critical information, evacuation directions or preventive instructions.
It's meant to be used when other forms of communication are not available.
Elaine Cristina of Westfield told 22News, "Especially working parents, they need that at all times. If you're at work, you can't always be reachable, but with your cell phone, you've got it right there in the palm of your hands. You can make a decision what to do at that time."
Twitter is working with 100 organizations in the United States, Japan, and Korea.
