CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Federal Government Shutdown has closed or limited certain national services.
The IRS office, closed. National historic sites like the Springfield Armory, closed. Others are open, though with limited services.
Social Security and Supplemental Security Income payments to beneficiaries will continue with no change in payment dates. They still help with applications; assist in appeals, change addresses, and issue critical payments among other dealings. They aren't issuing replacement Social Security Card or Medicare cards, or issuing a proof of income letter.
Brianna Dunns says she needs to get a letter to get the power turned on in her apartment.
"I just moved into my own little place trying to get the power turned on and I can't get the power turned on. So now it's even harder. I need a laptop for school. I need the internet for school. I need lights to read my books and study. It's rough. It's going to stink," said Dunns.
Social Security has also come up with a contingency plan if the shutdown lasts longer than normal. You can find the plan here.
