(NBCNC) - Another battle over the budget is looming among lawmakers.
Republicans have already made a move to cut millions off food stamps. Now lawmakers are facing deadlines on health care, the federal budget, and the debt limit.
It could mean you lose food stamps - Republicans pushed a 40-billion dollar cut through the House. It could also mean you don't get a tax penalty if you don't buy health insurance.
Today, there will be a vote on health care that would keep the government running till 10 days before Christmas.
The latest budget battle puts soldiers' paychecks, veteran's benefits medicare student loans, even food stamps at risk. "It is beyond cataclysmic," said Rep. Nancy Pelosi, (D) California.
Supporters worry many of the four million who could lose food stamps are jobless. "This bill is cruel, even heartless," said Robert Greenstein from the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities.
Today's battle is on Obamacare - stripping the money out of the President's health program. "I will do everything necessary and anything possible to defund "Obamacare.," said Senator Ted Cruz, (R) Texas.
"Any bill that defunds Obamacare is dead, dead." said Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Majority Leader.
Republicans are linking healthcare to passing a budget. If there's no budget in 11 days - the government could shut down.
Coming next - raising the debt limit to pay America's bills. Republicans say - not again. "Republicans have no interest in defaulting on our debt - none. We just want to find a way to pay it off," said House Speaker John Boehner, (R) Ohio.
"The answer is no - we will not negotiate." White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.
